I spoke with a person this week who considers herself extremely conservative. She is in her early seventies and though “retired”, still works 2 part time jobs and is quite a fireball to talk to. When speaking to her about some of our past presidents she brought up FDR and how her father had detested the man. I told her that he was quite a socialist and ran our country further down the road to serfdom than any other man save our current POSPOTUS. I mentioned several of the programs that he created and the evils of each and when I said “Social Security is the biggest travesty ever hoisted on the backs of the taxpayers except the coming Obamacare” …she let me have it with both barrels.
I listened as she explained how SS was not socialism but was a savings plan. How it was not the same as welfare and food stamps. How it was a good program and could not be touched. I sat and listened and then I offered a few counter arguments and tried to help her see, but she can not see because it is too close. She sees it as her right, as her entitlement for working for 55 years. It hit me like a ton of bricks.
People who claim to love Liberty and be Constitutionalists bristle when people talk of cutting THEIR pet program. Just how many people are actually dependents of fedgov and on the teat at the expense of others while claiming to be bastions of Liberty? How many Liberty minded folks would protest pulling our troops home and have them stop being the worlds police? How many would scream in horror if we stopped foreign aid? How many would be willing to live under the very Constitution that they claim to love?
The Republic is going over the precipice and it is going to burn. There is not enough even among the “right” to amount to 0.001 percent who would do what was needed and cut the cancer out. I have said it many times, do not be concerned with saving this country as it is dead already and is a freakish animated corpse. Be concerned with what is going to replace the US, that is a question worth considering.
With that, I have a few projects to complete. The days are getting short and there is still a long way to go. -55six
What’s the saying attributed to Julius Ceasar? “men willingly believe what they want to”. You hit the 10 ring with your statement about what will replace the US, whatever that will be it’ll be a hard road to get there.
